Healthy Living in Hua Hin, Thailand.
Living a well balanced lifestyle just makes good sense and can easily be achieved and maintained even when one chooses to leave there native country and move to Hua Hin, Thailand.
So here you are in a town called Hua Hin, everything is new and you want to begin or get back into doing the things that make you feel good and whole.
Where to Begin?
Let’s break it down into 4 categories.
Physical Activity
Exercise will not only keep you fit and firm but also protect you from illness. Now you don’t need to join a gym to achieve this, many other substitutes are available and some for FREE!
If you enjoy walking or running my favorite places are:
1.Walking at The King’s Palace Walking Track (make sure to bring ID for entrance) FREE
2.Running or walking on Takiab Beach is easier because it is less crowded then the main Hua Hin Beach (From Hua Hin, drive South into Takiab Fishing Village and at the fork in the road go right, drive straight and make a left at the Uno Italian restaurant for easy access.) FREE
3.The Hin Lek Fai View Point .This is a very steep walk but well worth the reward when reaching the top for the Best Views of Hua Hin! Also a nice area to have a picnic in the gardens. FREE
If you like aerobics, The Hua Hin Municipality (Located next to The Town’s Square) and The King’s Running Track (Next to The Royal Palace) both offer classes a couple of times per week.
If you also want to add in weight training to your program, the two best places are The Grand Gym and the Hilton Gym. Currently the Grand Gym is renovating and upgrading the equipment. Both offer monthly memberships or you can pay per visit.
Healthy Eating
Try to eat a variety of foods. Avoid high-cholesterol foods, esp. saturated fat such as fatty meats and egg yolks. Try to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables and grain products.
If you are cooking for yourself and need to find the right ingredients, I recommend the following shops and markets:
The Morning Market in the Center of town has plenty of fruits and vegetables to choose from. As well get fresh fish and lean meats, healthiest if grilled. Avoid frying.
The Tesco Lotus @ Market Village Mall has a “make your own salad bar” and a good choice of whole grain products. An even better choice for breads is La Baguette near soi 56 on Petchakasem Rd. Treat yourself to a delicious spinach croissant or fruit Danish.
A Villa Market has recently opened but prices are high. This is a good place to find your favorite imported items from back home but not to do your whole grocery order.
RELAXING
Find a few ways to Chill Out. Too much stress is not good for your health. Making the effort to relax, I know sounds like work but it will allow your body to better respond to stress effectively. I suggest meditation, listening to music, reading a book or going for a massage as a few options.
My favorite spot for an excellent massage @ 300.00THB is in the Hua Hin Center Night Market @ Day & Night Massage, 2nd block up heading west from Petchakasem road.
LEARNING SOMETHING NEW
I think a great way to noodle what you want to learn is to make a list. Here a list of possibilities in Hua Hin for you.
-Cooking Class (Try the Baan Klai Kang Won cooking school on Naebkehard Rd)
-Thai Lessons (Check out the local papers for free lance teachers)
-Bird Watching in the rain forests (Most Tour Companies offer day treks to the Rain Forests)
-Massage Certificate Course
As Hua Hin grows so do the number of activities offered. Just the other day I was driving and saw a sign for The New York Theater Co. I’ll check it out this week and write a post to let you know what it’s all about.
